Maximizing Center Console Comfort: The Custom 5-Panel Phone Booth Enclosure
For dedicated offshore fishermen, the center console is the ultimate fishing platform—offering 360-degree fishability and unmatched deck space. However, that open layout comes with a major drawback: total exposure to the elements. On windy days or rough runs, freezing sea spray and driving wind can turn an exciting trip into a test of endurance.
Our latest project at Robie Marine solves exactly that. We fabricated a custom 5-panel "Phone Booth" style enclosure with side wings to keep this captain warm, dry, and comfortable in the worst of coastal weather.
Form, Function, and Flawless Sightlines
A center console enclosure needs to be incredibly tight to withstand high cruising speeds and heavy wind resistance. For this project, we chose a combination of top-tier marine materials engineered to last:
Premium Black Sunbrella: We utilized genuine Sunbrella canvas for the structural borders. It delivers excellent UV resistance, water repellency, and a sharp, clean look that complements the boat's lines.
Heavy-Duty Strataglass Panels: Visibility is everything when navigating choppy waters or watching for breaking fish. By choosing premium Strataglass, we provided the captain with optical-grade clarity that resists scratching and weathering far better than standard vinyl windows.
Custom Console Wings: The side panels extend back dynamically as "wings," creating a wider pocket of calm, dead air behind the console. This protects not just the captain at the wheel, but a second mate standing alongside them.
By tailoring the canvas precisely around the existing aluminum T-top supports, we ensured a drum-tight, wrinkle-free fit that eliminates flapping and wind drag while preserving the boat's full fishability.
